Chiropractic Care: A Philosophy of Healing and Adaptation

As a chiropractor, my journey began when I experienced the healing power of chiropractic care firsthand. Growing up, I suffered from numerous injuries, and whenever I had an ache or pain, I would visit my chiropractor. I never knew much about the philosophy of chiropractic care until I suffered a severe neck injury while high jumping in middle school. My parents took me to Dr. Paul, my chiropractor, who showed me how a few misaligned bones in my neck were putting pressure on my nerves, causing numbness. With just a few adjustments, I felt relief and was hooked on chiropractic care.

What is Chiropractic Care?

chiropractic adjusting equipmentAt its core, chiropractic care is a healthcare profession that focuses on the body’s ability to adapt and heal itself. Chiropractors believe that the body has an innate ability to heal and that it is their job to help facilitate that process by removing any restrictions in the spine or joints that may be blocking the communication between the brain and the body’s cells. This communication is vital for the body’s functions to work optimally.

Philosophy of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is based on the philosophy that the body has the ability to heal itself, and it is the chiropractor’s job to remove any obstacles that may be preventing this process. The body gives us warning signals, and the most common one is pain. Chiropractors work to restore the flow of information between the brain and the body by locating areas of misalignment or alteration and using various techniques to adjust the vertebrae or joints back into place.

The adjustments help to stimulate the body’s natural healing process, and chiropractors believe that by correcting these misalignments, they can help the body function at its optimal level. Chiropractic care is often used to alleviate pain, but it can also be used to treat various conditions such as headaches, asthma, and digestive problems.

Safety of Chiropractic Care

Many people are apprehensive about chiropractic care, and there are often concerns about the safety of the practice. However, chiropractic care is completely safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor. The risk of serious adverse events is extremely low, with only a few reported cases in the last 28 years. It’s important to remember that any medical treatment, including chiropractic care, carries a slight risk, but the benefits of chiropractic care far outweigh the risks.
