Knee Pain Treatment
in Chippewa Falls

Stairs that used to be automatic now require a second thought. A walk around the block leaves you favoring one side without meaning to. At Denn Chiropractic, Chippewa Falls Chiropractor Dr. Jason Denn begins by looking beyond the knee itself to identify what’s contributing to your symptoms.

Knee pain rarely stays confined to the knee, and it has a way of reshaping how you move through the day.

Why Knee Pain Often Starts Somewhere Else

The ankle and hip are designed to move freely, while the knee sits between them as a stability joint that isn’t built to compensate for either one. When the ankle or hip can’t do its job, the knee absorbs the load it was never designed to handle, which is why knee pain can stick around even after direct treatment.
NEW PATIENTS

A meaningful share of knee pain traces back to problems above or below the joint rather than the joint itself. These include:

  • Ankle restrictions that force the knee to twist to compensate
  • Hip misalignment that changes how weight travels down the leg
  • Quick stops and pivoting common in racquet sports
  • General wear and tear from years of use
  • Old injuries that changed the way you walk without noticing
  • Leg length differences following a previous knee replacement

When Knee Pain Starts Affecting More Than the Joint

Pain is often the most obvious symptom, but instability and muscles clamping down to protect the joint are common companions. Many patients don’t realize how much their walk has changed until they see it. A rotated pelvis or a slight drop with every step can develop so gradually that it goes unnoticed, even as it affects the hip and lower back too.

If cortisone injections keep providing a week or two of relief before the pain returns, that usually means the root cause, whether in the ankle, hip, or knee itself, hasn’t actually been addressed.

Looking at the Whole Chain, Not Just the Knee

An exam typically includes the ankle and hip alongside the knee itself, since roughly a third of knee pain traces back to one of those two joints. When there is genuine ligament or tendon involvement, electrical stimulation and ultrasound calm inflammation and promote healing early on.

Once the joint stabilizes, care shifts into structured movement, starting with gentle flexion and extension before adding resistance and weight. One patient in her later years had been told her ongoing pain was simply degeneration. An old, healed foot fracture had rotated a bone near the outer ankle, pinching a nerve and causing her foot to drop with every step. Adjusting that misalignment relieved the pressure, and the drop resolved completely.

What Recovery Tends to Look Like

Mild sprains often improve within four to six weeks, moderate injuries can take several months, and severe cases take longer still, which is why finding the true source early matters. Patients who address the ankle and hip alongside the knee tend to see lasting results, rather than pain that returns every few months.
